13 & Overs Long Course Championships

Wellington Anniversary weekend once again coincided with Swimming Wellington 13 & Over Long Course Championships as Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre played host to three days of swimming over six sessions. With a range of athletes travelling from Auckland, Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, Nelson-Marlborough and Canterbury, there was plenty of competition for Wellington swimmers.

The stand out swim from a Wellington swimmer during finals on day one came in the 50m Backstroke from Stevie Shipman of Raumati Raptors. Shipman finished ahead of Sasha Reid (Aquabladz) and Chelsey Edwards (SZR) in 2nd and 3rd respectively, with a Wellington Record of 30.56s.

Day two saw Lea Muellner and Orlando Cristobal-Mandel register Wellington records in the 50 breast during each of their Preliminary heats. Both swimmers continued this form into the finals, bringing home new Wellington record times of 33.55s (Muellner, 15yrs girls) and 29.87s (Cristobal-Mandel, 15yrs boys).

Luan Grobbelaar (Kiwi West, 16-17yrs boys), Hannah Huria (Raumati, 13yrs girls) and Jenna Rolston-Larking (Capital, 14yrs girls) were the highest scoring individual swimmers throughout the weekend.

Capital Swim Club finished on top of the club points leader board with 2,037.50 points, an increase of 527 points from their 2018 Long Course tally.
