Bob Eagle obituary

Obituary Notice for Life Member in Swimming - R.R.Eagle (aka Bob)

Life Member of the Wairarapa Swimming Association Bob Eagle passed away suddenly on the 4th January 2021 at the age of 85. His 60 year involvement in swimming started in Carterton. He was a timekeeper at the first New Zealand age group championships held in Masterton in 1969 and again in 1974. He received a Wairarapa Service Medal and in 1976 was given a New Zealand Service Award. He was the first Chairman of the Carterton Swimming Club and over the years was President, coach, administrator and timekeeper.

He moved to Nelson and maintained his Official capacity for the Nelson/ Marlborough Swimming Centre and formed the ‘Nelson Eagles Swim Team’ that competed successfully at National competitions.

In the 80’s his activity at national level was with the Education and Water Safety Committee and Swimming Education Authority.

He retired in Feilding and was well known for his love of swimming in the Whanganui/ Feilding district. His motto being “We Strive to Achieve”.

Bob will be sorely missed by the swimming community and are thoughts are with his family during this time.
